Joe Savery wasn’t so savory for the Philadelphia Phillies.

He was drafted with the 18th pick in the 2007 draft out of rice University with the hope that he could be a strong left-hander to help stabilize the rotation in the future. Safe to say, that didn’t happen…

He was a starter in the minors from 2007-2010 but was then converted to a reliever due to ineffectiveness (seem familiar). He posted good numbers as a relief pitcher in 2011 to earn a brief call-up with the big league team but he then got sent back down and struggled.

Savery made his last appearance for the Philadelphia Phillies in 2013 and was then picked up by the Oakland Athletics. He made three appearances in the majors for the A’s but has been out of baseball altogether since 2014.

Such is the life of a pitcher in the majors. You never know when your career will take a turn for the worst and you’ll find yourself on the outside looking in.
