In 2002 the Philadelphia Phillies had arguably their best first round pick since the year 2000 when they drafted Cole Hamels.

Cole Hamels has gifted the city of Philadelphia with tons of great performances, but none may have been greater than his farewell start before being traded to the Texas Rangers. Hamels threw a no-hitter that will live on forever in Phillies’ fans hearts.

During his time in Philadelphia, Hamels established himself as one of the top left-handers in the game pitching 200+ innings in six of his nine total years in Philadelphia. The 2011 season was arguably his best in Philadelphia as he started 31 games pitching 216 innings and compiling a 2.79 ERA in route to a 14-9 record.

Hamels’ legacy will linger with the Philadelphia Phillies long after he is done with his career in the major leagues both through memories and the prospects that the Philadelphia Phillies were able to acquire from the Texas Rangers to rejuvenate their farm system and speed along the rebuild.

Hamels is a surefire member of the Philadelphia Phillies hall of fame once he retires and depending on how he’s able to close out his career he may be headed to enshrinement in Cooperstown as well.
