Known better for his time with the Chicago White Sox, Gavin Floyd was originally drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies with the fourth pick in the 2001 MLB draft.

Floyd was drafted out of Mount Saint Joseph High School in Baltimore, Maryland and chose to sign with the Philadelphia Phillies. Floyd made his debut in 2004 and did well in brief appearances. Floyd then struggled over the next few years with the Philadelphia Phillies which led to him joining the White Sox in 2007.

With the White Sox, Floyd was a solid but unspectacular innings eater. Prior to 2012, he topped 180 innings pitched each year but he only had an ERA lower than 4.00 in 2008 when he also pitched a career high 206 innings.

In 2013 Floyd became a journeyman as he has bounced between three different teams since leaving the White Sox. Floyd has spent time with the Atlanta Braves, the Cleveland Indians and his current team, the Toronto Blue Jays.

Floyd isn’t a failure for being a first round pick but you expect more from the fourth pick in the draft.
