Philadelphia Phillies: Five Areas Where They Need Improvement
By Chuck Booth
After getting swept out of Wrigley Field by the Chicago Cubs, the Philadelphia Phillies are in danger of seeing their playoff hopes slip away.
After facing two tough series’ with the Chicago Cubs and the Detroit Tigers, the Philadelphia Phillies are in third place in the NL East and 3.5 games out of first place. While that doesn’t seem like much it can turn into 5+ games quickly especially with the Phillies entering a crucial series with the first-place nationals tonight.
The Nationals may be 5-5 in their last ten games but this series will go a long way to deciding the NL East standings. 3.5 games aren’t much to overcome in the standings but if the gap grows to 6.5 (worst case scenario three-game sweep at the hands of the Nationals) the season could go into a tailspin in a hurry.
With that being said we at Section 215 would like to go through five changes that the Philadelphia Phillies can make to save their season and avoid being sellers at the trade deadline. We’ll cover the struggles of the offense, the pitching staff and every Phillies fan’s favorite subject, Ryan Howard.
