Steve Carlton

Steve Carlton isn’t only the most dominant pitcher in Phillies history, he’s one of the best left-handers to step onto the mound in MLB history. Carlton’s dominance came from one of the best pitches the league will ever see, his slider.

Carlton’s numbers are somewhat ridiculous. After 7 seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals, Carlton joined the Phillies and stayed for almost 15 years. In that time with the Phillies, Carlton put himself ahead of anyone in Phillies strikeout history by 1,161 strikeouts. Carlton also is ahead of everyone else in Phillies Wins history, putting himself first with 241 Wins. Carlton also ranks 2nd in WAR.

Carlton was also able to spearhead the first World Series win in Phillies history in 1980. He went 2-0 with 2.4o ERA and, of course, 17 strikeouts.

Carlton is far and away the best pitcher in Phillies history. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1994, and the Phillies Wall of Fame in 1989. His number 32 was retired by the Phillies.

Dominance is the perfect word to describe Carlton. His nasty slider puts him atop anyone else on this list of best Phillies starting pitchers.
