Philadelphia Eagles 2016 Schedule Released: Preview & Predictions
Week Eight: Philadelphia Eagles @ Dallas Cowboys
Sunday, October 30, 8:30 (NBC) (SNF)
History: Cowboys lead all time series 64-50-0; Last Two Meetings: (2015) 20-10 Cowboys, 33-27 Eagles
Always the most anticipated games of the year, the Eagles-Cowboys rivalry in 2016 begins on Sunday Night Football in Dallas.
Story lines
The game at the halfway point of the season, this game could have playoff implications for both teams. It will also be Doug Pederson’s head coaching debut in a match up where Eagles fans expect nothing less than a victory, especially in their house. For the Eagles, this game is usually always a must-win, especially in week eight.
Barring any injury, this game will also feature Cowboy quarterback Tony Romo. The 36 year old was injured during the last Eagles-Cowboys meeting when Jordan Hicks delivered a big blow to the QB. As frail and unpredictable his health is, it is clear to the entire league that Romo changes which kind of team Dallas is, from a top ten pick, to a playoff contender.
Just as in the Browns-Eagles match up, we could see a highly touted rookie having a big impact in this game. We could very well see Ezekiel Elliott on either team when this game comes as both Philadelphia and Dallas have both been mocked in some mock drafts to be the future home for the Ohio State Buckeye.
This game will also be the first for defensive end Cedric Thornton against the Eagles. Thornton left the Eagles for Dallas via free agency this past off season. It wasn’t as a big as a flip compared to running back Demarco Murray’s singing to the Eagles the off season before, but when it comes down to these teams, its a story line nonetheless, no matter what kind of impact Cedric will have on the game.
Prediction: WIN (4-3)
For some odd reason the Eagles have experienced success playing at Dallas in past years (5-1 in the past six away games). Like always, if Romo is healthy, expect this to be a very close game, but given their success playing at Dallas, the edge goes to Philly.
