Freddy Galvis presents an interesting case for the Philadelphia Phillies. He’s a good player but how good can he be?

Last season was shortstop Freddy Galvis’ first full season in baseball. While playing in 151 games Galvis hit .263 while posting a .302 on-base percentage. At 26 years old there is room for growth in Galvis’ plate discipline which is something that the Philadelphia Phillies would like to see in 2016. Galvis has the potential to be a top of the order bat for the Phillies (probably batting second in the order) Galvis also has solid speed at the top of the order as shown by his five triples last season and his 10 stolen bases in 11 attempts.

This season Galvis needs to run more, the fact that he was only caught one time in his 11 attempts shows that he has the awareness and speed to steal 20 plus bases if given the green light. Speed would add an extra dimension to the Philadelphia Phillies squad that on offense, will have to live by the “small ball” mantra. The Philadelphia Phillies had 88 stolen bases in 2015, good for eighth in baseball but with some of the speedsters on the team this season, the Phillies should be able to go over 100 steals. Without Ben Revere to inflate that number, players like Freddy Galvis will have to share the load between them.
