San Jose was a team that no one expected to really compete this year but this week they’re coming off a huge win over the Portland Timbers to show that they’re for real this season.

4/30 vs San Jose Earthquakes at Talen Energy Stadium-

Analyzing San Jose starts and usually ends with US Soccer legend Chris Wondolowski, but not this year. While Wondo is the star for San Jose this season he has more of a supporting cast around him.

This season the Quakes have shed their identity as a team that lacks tactics. They have developed into a possession team and those are the types teams that the Philadelphia Union usually struggle with. It will give them a good test for if the press defense and the counter-attacking offense that Jim Curtin is implementing.

While there may be more around Wondo this year, he’s the main draw for the team. He holds the record for goals in an MLS season with 27. Wondo is also the fifth leading scorer in MLS history and the leading active scorer.

After Wondo, the guy to watch for San Jose is Quincy Amarikwa who was brought into the team to offer support. While he hasn’t scored as many goals, he has provided space for San Jose as a whole.
