Running Back

Grade: C

DeMarco Murray opened the game with a 54-yard touchdown run on the first drive, which happened to come while Sam Bradford was under center. Despite that hot start, Murray got just 11 carries the rest of the game and ran for just 15 yards on those carries.

Ryan Mathews rounded out his disappointing finish to the season, rushing for just 11 yards on four carries. In his first season in Philadelphia, he proved to be exactly what he was billed as: someone who occasionally looks like he could be an elite running-back but struggles with injuries and consistency.

Kenjon Barner also got a look today, running for 18 yards on five carries. It should be interesting to see what the Oregon product’s future with the team is.

Sproles also chipped in 24 yards on three carries, as it was evident that Shurmur and Duce Staley did their best to give all of the backs a look.

After rushing for one first down in the second quarter, Sproles looked up and seemed to roll his eyes when realizing he was coming off of the field. This is a normal thing for a competitor to do, but it’s evident that the Eagles can’t bring back all four of their running-backs next season. Moving on from either Sproles or Mathews may make the most sense, because it will open up some money and carries.
