Note: This article was written on March 29th, 2014, the day after the Eagles cut their ties with DeSean Jackson. Jackson has since been back to Philly, and rubbed most of us wrongly enough that we don’t have any issue embracing him in the villain role that he seems to have thrust himself into.

Regardless of how you feel about yesterday afternoon’s news that the Eagles had released DeSean Jackson, you woke up with a strange feeling this morning. I’m trying to remember the last time that I woke up in the morning, the day after a Philly sports team didn’t have a game, and I still thought about that team as my first thought. I guess when the Phillies signed Cliff Lee or when the Eagles signed Nnamdi Asomugha was the last time–until this morning.
Today, I woke up feeling a void. For all the times where DeSean took games (or the entire 2011 season) off, or annoyed me with his Instagram posts, I had a soft spot for him. Don’t get me wrong, I was as big of a critic of Jackson’s game as you will find, but it wasn’t like I didn’t appreciate the arrogant touchdown celebrations after a game-changing punt-return or receiving touchdown. I LOVED that part of DeSean. And for all of the ups and downs, it wasn’t like DeSean was short on those type of moments either.
For a moment at least, let’s put aside the debate on whether fans should side with the Eagles or DeSean, and re-live his top five most electrifying moments as an Eagle.
