1. Not Settling on Nick Foles
It’s very easy to criticize how the Sam Bradford accusation as worked out thus far, but given the circumstance that Chip Kelly was in, it’s hard to fault him for trying to acquire Bradford when his value was down and trying to revitalize his career.
And while the Eagles would probably like to have the second-round draft pick they moved in the Bradford trade back, given how Nick Foles’ tenure in St. Louis is shaping up, he doesn’t look wrong for not holding onto Foles. Kelly really looks smart for going in another direction before the rest of the league realized that Foles was closer to the player that was among the league lead in turnovers before a season-ending injury in 2014 than the one that thrived in Kelly’s first season in the league.
It may be an understatement at this point to suggest that the Eagles are even in quarterback purgatory, but for as bad of a situation they are in they aren’t really tied to any player long-term at that position. This means that they can draft a quarterback, trade for another quarterback, sign another quarterback or even stick with Bradford for another season. None of that would guarantee any more success than the Eagles have had over the past couple of seasons, but they didn’t elect to sign Foles long-term and stick with someone that clearly is a below-average starter in the league at best.
