Late yesterday evening, the Philadelphia Phillies dealt Cole Hamels to the Texas Rangers, along with Jake Diekman and cash, for package of prospects and Matt Harrison that is sure to help shorten the length of the team’s re-build.

Hamels was also dealt to a team that gives him a better chance to contend the next few seasons, something that is sure to excite him.

This may be the rare case of a deal that benefits both sides equally, which seems for a fitting way for the second World Series MVP in franchise history to exit Philadelphia.

Still, it’s hard to wake up without a sense of sadness this morning. Philadelphia has seen it’s fair share of stars exit over the past two years, but this feels differently. Jimmy Rollins, as his play this year as shown, was at the end of his career. DeSean Jackson and LeSean McCoy exited Philadelphia on bad terms, and will probably remain that way for some time. Hamels is still very much in his prime, and is being dealt in an attempt to help the team he’s leaving to return to the annual contention the team expected to have when they signed him to a six-year extension at this time three years ago.

So it seems in order that we take a look back at Hamels’ finest moments in Philadelphia. Frankly, it was hard to narrow this countdown to just five moments.
