Morning Phil-Up: Could The Jets Help The Eagles Land Marcus Mariota?

Could Jets Help Eagles Land Marcus Mariota? – Bleeding Green Nation
As Eagles fans remain locked in endless debates of whether or not the team will go all-out to find a way to add quarterback Marcus Mariota to the mix, various writers are throwing their own scenarios into the mix.
One from Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News has a proposal in which the Eagles give the Jets their first and second rounders in 2015 and 2016 along with quarterback Nick Foles to move up to the sixth overall pick.
The Eagles could then either take Mariota if he slides to six, or orchestrate another deal with the Tennessee Titans to move up to the second overall selection.
The idea of selling the farm for Mariota continues to sound like nothing but absolute insanity to me. Draining the team of all of its future assets for a guy who is a system quarterback is a recipe for the destruction of the franchise.
With no significant draft picks for three years, the Birds would have to rely on free agency to make improvements in other areas. Even if they’re more successful than they were with the 2011 “Dream Team” spree, the big contracts that will need to be given to those veterans will put the team in cap hell all too quickly.
Looking Back At Trades The Sixers Have Already Won This Year – The 700 Level
With the NBA’s trade deadline looming, Sixers fans wonder what, if anything, general manager Sam Hinkie will look to do to try and acquire more assets.
However, Hinkie may have already done all the damage that he needs to do for this year.
In the deals he made over the summer and earlier in the season, Hinkie has already picked up a significant amount of assets to help this team in the future.
Most notably, Hinkie dealt away Thaddeus Young and turned him into a first-round pick, Luc Richard Mbah a Moute, and Alexey Shved (who was flipped to Houston for a second-rounder).
Hinkie also picked up another first-rounder from the Orlando Magic.
The most significant pick up of that bunch may be the first-rounder in the Young trade. The pick, which will come from the Miami Heat, is top-10 protected, but has a very good chance to fall between 11-15 which could wind up giving the Sixers multiple top-15 picks in the first round for third year in a row.
Would The Titans Pass On Mariota At Number 2? – Philly.com
The Tennessee Titans own the second overall pick in the upcoming NFL draft.
And like many teams, they’re in the market for a quarterback.
The Titans, with new head coach Ken Wisenhunt, seem to be ready to turn the page on often-injured former first-rounder Jake Locker, but are not necessarily a lock to use their pick on one of the top quarterbacks available in this draft.
While most expect the Titans to take a quarterback, I’m not convinced that they will.
Tennessee likes what they saw out of Zach Mettenberger a year ago, and with the this quarterback class considerably weaker than most years, the Titans may very well realize that drafting an off-field headache like Jameis Winston or a system-quarterback like Marcus Mariota could very well set them back several years.
If the Titans decide to pass on a quarterback, it could be the beginning of a draft day slide for Mariota that could allow the Eagles to make a move to pick him up.
Could Sixers Trade Nerlens Noel For Nik Stauskas? – Crossing Broad
There has been a lot of talk about the Sixers potentially trading Nerlens Noel.
The Sixers have gathered a lot of talent in their front court. They’ve added Noel, Joel Embiid, Robert Covington, and Henry Sims to their mix over the last two years. If the team lands the top draft pick, they could very well take elite prospect Jahlil Okafor, further complicating the situation.
Thus, the possibility of the team moving Noel has been floated around.
One rumor suggests that the team would consider dealing Noel for shooting guard Nik Stauskas, who has yet to really get an opportunity for playing time with the Kings.
Stauskas could potentially help the team’s outside shooting, but Noel’s potential to grow into one of the the game’s better defenders makes this potential deal a hard one to envision Sam Hinkie pulling the trigger on, at least not until Embiid proves he’s healthy or when/if the club is able to land Okafor.
