Howie Roseman Didn’t Talk To Jets About Vacant GM Position For Himself – Bleeding Green Nation

Shortly after the various reports of power struggles within the Eagles’ front office, one suggested that general manager Howie Roseman had spoken with the New York Jets regarding their vacant position.

However, that report has now been refuted. While Roseman did indeed have contact with the Jets, he wasn’t throwing his name into the conversation for their job.

Instead, he was merely talking with the Jets about their interest in interviewing one of his assistants, Rick Mueller, for the job.

I’d find it hard to believe that Roseman would in any way, shape, or form be the least bit interested in leaving Philadelphia. The 39-year old has risen to the top of this organization, and he has a tremendous working relationship with owner Jeffrey Lurie. Howie would be hard-pressed to find a better situation for himself than what he’s got right now.

Stay or Go: Examining Eagles’ Potential Salary Cap Casualties – The 700 Level

The Eagles are going to have some big decisions to make on some of their current veteran contracts in the coming months.

Key players like LeSean McCoy, DeMeco Ryans, Todd Herremans, and Cary Williams are all due for significant increases in pay next year, and its going to be difficult for the Eagles to afford all of these guys at their current figures. Which of these players should stay, and which should go? How far can the team go to keep certain guys, and which of these highly-payed players can they least afford to lose?

McCoy is still such a focal point of Chip Kelly’s offense, and he’s already stated that he’s open to getting something done with the team to stay. Trent Cole has also said that he wants to remain an Eagle, and would be willing to rework his deal.

It will be a lot harder for guys like Todd Herremans and Cary Williams to stick around. Herremans was already on a decline, and although he still has some good football left, the Eagles may want to begin to get younger on their offensive line. Williams is due to make over $8 million next year, and has likely talked his way out of town. It would be surprising to see the Eagles bring him back, even at a reduced price.

Gamble’s Dismissal Shows That Kelly Does Not Have Full Authority – Philly.com

During this past season, tensions had been developing between Eagles’ head coach Chip Kelly and general manager Howie Roseman.

Two days after Kelly gave high praise to Tom Gamble, one of his top assistants, the team promptly gave Gamble his walking papers. Although Kelly has maintained throughout the year that he has final say over the team’s roster, it’s clear now that he does not have nearly as much power as many believed he did.

The firing of Gamble sends a message that says Chip answers to Howie. The general manager is held in high regards by Jeffrey Lurie, and this move shows that he could very well be the most powerful figure in the franchise, other than Lurie himself.

The question now is how will Kelly respond to this turn of events? Is he still committed to staying in Philadelphia long-term, or will his relationship with Roseman and Lurie lead to a departure for him sooner rather than later?

Will Free Agents Want To Sign With The Eagles? – CSNPhilly

How attractive of a destination will Philadelphia be for NFL free agents this year?

Any offensive player would likely be interested in coming to play for Chip Kelly and his explosive offense, but would the same be true for players on the defensive side of the ball?

After watching Billy Davis regularly fail to put his players in the best possible position, does his scheme and reputation as a defensive coordinator make defensive stars less likely to want to come to Philadelphia?

When it comes to luring free agents to any city, most of the time the biggest factor is money, not whether or not the scheme is a fit or the coaching staff is competent.

It’s also worth noting that the Eagles have done a pretty decent job the two last two years at picking up defensive upgrades in free agency. Connor Barwin and Malcolm Jenkins each joined the team via free agency over the last two years. The club also was able to pick up guys like Cary Williams, Bradley Fletcher, and Patrick Chung, all of whom became starters on the defensive unit.
