Kelly is Not Committed to any Quarterback on the roster, because he doesn’t have to be

At this time last year, there was about as much confidence in the long-term prospects for the Eagles at the quarterback position as there had been since Donovan McNabb was in his prime. Part of this probably had to do with the fact that we finally saw a performance from a young, homegrown talent in Nick Foles that may have inspired us a bit too much.

Following another injury to Foles and an inconsistent showing from Mark Sanchez, the future of the position is once again clouded with uncertainty. When asked about what Nick had to do in the upcoming offseason, Kelly delivered a rather generic answer.

He would later be asked about the importance of finding the quarterback to ‘hitch his wagon’ to, something that seems almost necessary to achieve the ultimate goal of a Super Bowl. Kelly explained that he prefers not to think in such a tight lens, elaborating on the importance of the other 21 spots on the depth chart.

If the Eagles had a quarterback on the roster who was making the most money on the team and was the face of the organization, Kelly would probably defend him for better or worse. With that not being the case, there is no spilled blood over him not fawning over Foles, Sanchez, or any other quarterback on the roster. I believe this regime will continue to try new and creative ways to address the position until someone can step up and show they have what it takes to establish himself as an acceptable option.
