Not that he necessarily played an awful game, but Mark Sanchez’s fourth quarter pick essentially sealed the deal on the Eagles season last Saturday. The team was officially knocked out of playoff contention when the Cowboys manhandled the Colts on Sunday. So the Eagles entered their Week 17 matchup with the Giants, on a three-game losing-streak and with nothing to accomplish by winning the game.
If you’re still reading after that intro, here are my in-game notes on Mark Sanchez’s performance in the season-finale, and perhaps, his Eagles finale.
First Quarter
- After the Giants torched the Eagles secondary to take a 7-0 lead early on, the Eagles followed by getting Zach Ertz involved on a crossing route early. A false start moved the Eagles back five yards, but a 23-yard run from LeSean McCoy kept the drive moving. The drive concluded with a 44-yard touchdown pass from Sanchez to Jordan Matthews. Don’t worry, Sanchez didn’t actually throw it 44 yards, he rolled out and hit Matthews, who darted pass Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, who made no effort (!!!), into the endzone.
