3. Vincent Lecavalier (2013, five-year deal worth $22.5 million)

Lecavalier comes in third on this list for me for many of the reasons that I stated above.

Vinny was expected to bring a great deal to the table, and having this established veteran on the club should have really helped a lot of the younger players grow and come into their own a lot quicker.

Instead, they’ve got the league’s most expensive healthy scratch that doesn’t seem to have much of a future here.

This is a signing that I think we’re going to look back on as one that really set the Flyers back a couple of years. That $22.5 million could have gone towards extending younger players, or bringing in some upgrades to the team’s weak defensive core.
