4. LeSean McCoy isn’t getting help, but he also isn’t helping himself

For the past few weeks, I’ve said that the offensive line really isn’t making any holes for LeSean McCoy, which has been the major reason for Shady’s early struggles. I said that after watching the games on TV, but I was at Sunday’s game, and at the games you get a clearer view of the entire offensive line because you get to choose your own camera angle with your eyes. What I saw confirmed that the offensive line isn’t doing a great job in front of Shady, but he isn’t hitting any of the holes, and he’s dancing himself into trouble.

Shady dancing isn’t something knew–it’s driven Chip Kelly insane for north of a year now–but normally he would dance his way out of trouble and then he would burst through a hole. Sunday, especially on the play that he ended up fumbling, there were holes for him to hit after he danced his way out of trouble, but he hesitated. He isn’t confident in the line, and I don’t even think he’s confident in himself at this point.

Shady will benefit greatly from next week’s bye-week. He can put the whole 2,000 yards thing out of his head, put his rough strart to the season behind him, and mentally re-group. I don’t have any doubt he is going to look like the old Shady come the second half of the season, which will open things up offensively.
