The season is three games young, but there is optimism around the surprising 3-0 Philadelphia 76ers. Three victories against the Miami Heat, Washington Wizards, and Chicago Bulls is impressive considering the low expectations of this Sixers’ team. Could this Sixers’ team be better than we expected?

Led by head coach Brett Brown, this young roster is embracing the underdog image. The team is playing very good basketball as a unit and team chemistry is extremely high right now. In the three games this season, the Sixers have shown a resilient attitude when they get knocked down. The team has trailed by big margins in all three games, but has not backed down. Players have come together to get back up and battle back to win each of the games.

Each player on the roster values their role on the team and has done everything they can to succeed in that role. Evan Turner, Spencer Hawes, Michael Carter-Williams, and Thaddeus Young are carrying the load offensively. Tony Wroten and Lavoy Allen are providing sparks off the bench throughout the game. Everything seems to be going the Sixers way right now.

With all that said, there are still some alarming facts surrounding the Sixers. The defense has struggled to get stops and the Sixers are turning the ball over too frequently. Brett Brown needs to make some adjustments on both ends of the court. The 76ers simply cannot continue to play from behind all the time. It takes a lot out of a team to battle back night in and night out, and some games the offense just won’t have it in them to go on a huge run to overcome a big deficit.

If Brown can fix the defense and the offense continues to be efficient scoring the basketball, then the Sixers will certainly exceed the expectations that were put on them. No one expected the Sixers to start the season 3-0, but the team is playing extremely well. Who knows maybe the underdog mentality is exactly what this team needs to win basketball games.
