Even though Pickett is still under contract for the 2025 season, it wouldn’t be shocking to see the Eagles trade him with the emergence of Tanner McKee. The Eagles acquired Pickett and a 2024 fourth-round pick from the Pittsburgh Steelers this past offseason in exchange for a 2024 third-round pick and two 2025 seventh-round picks.

With the Eagles not re-signing Marcus Mariota, they needed a new backup quarterback behind starter Jalen Hurts. Pickett did not have a great preseason performance, leading to fans calling for McKee.

However, the Eagles turned to Pickett when Hurts suffered a concussion in Week 15 against Washington. The former Steelers quarterback didn’t have an amazing statline in relief of Hurts but did enough to keep the Eagles’ offense afloat (14-of-24 for 143 yards, a touchdown, and an interception).

Then the following week against the Cowboys, Pickett made his first career start as an Eagles QB. Pickett played well, completing an efficient 10-of-15 passes for 143 yards and two total TDs.

The former first-round pick came into that game banged up and had to be replaced by McKee, who finished off the 41-7 win over the Cowboys. McKee made his NFL start in Week 18 against the New York Giants.

The second-year quarterback did everything the Eagles asked of him as he led them to a 20-13 win at home. McKee completed 27-of-41 passes for 269 yards and two touchdowns.

Philadelphia won’t be in a rush to trade Pickett this offseason since his cap hit for 2025 is only $2.6M. But if the right deal presents itself, the Eagles might make a move given they’ll have to decide on his fifth-year option.
