5 & 6. Fred Johnson/ Nick Gates

The Eagles will need to find their next swing tackle in the offseason as Fred Johnson is set to get a payday in free agency. The 27-year-old offensive lineman has been fantastic in his two years in Philadelphia, developing into a starting-caliber tackle.

Johnson started in six games this season for the Eagles due to the injuries at the tackle spots. The veteran lineman’s advanced grades on PFF aren’t special (47.5 overall, 37.3 pass block, 55.1 run block).

However, in 480 offensive snaps played, he’s only allowed eight sacks and been penalized four times. In a league where solid to good offensive linemen aren’t available, it wouldn’t be a shock to see Johnson get FA interest as he’s been under the direction of Jeff Stoutland.

Along with Johnson, Nick Gates could have a different jersey next season. The veteran lineman has appeared in nine games (one start). Before signing with the Eagles this past summer, Gates started in 10 games with the Washington Commanders last season.

The Eagles signed Gates in July after the Commanders released him in March. Philadelphia did not keep the 29-year-old lineman on the initial 53-man roster ahead of the late August deadline but signed him immediately to the practice squad.

In September, Gates was eventually signed to the active roster and has been the backup to Pro Bowl center Cam Jurgens. In limited snaps this season (96), Gates has a 67.7 pass block grade among 135 guards, per PFF. The veteran offensive lineman has seen snaps at center (82), left guard (10) and right guard (4).
