The Eagles pulled off their sixth straight win on Thursday Night Football, taking a commanding lead in the NFC East with their eyes set on the No. 1 seed in the conference. Perhaps even better than the win, one breakout player virtually cemented himself as a Pro Bowler with a spectacular effort.

Fifth-year LB Zack Baun has emerged as a defensive cornerstone for Philadelphia, submitting his magnum opus in a dominant performance against Washington's elite offense.

Currently ranked second in the NFL in tackles (102), Baun's one-year deal in the offseason was perhaps the best move by any team. He's more than earned an extension and Howie Roseman should already be drawing up the paperwork.

Eagles LB Zack Baun Cements Himself as Pro Bowler in Dominant TNF Effort

While helping hold the vaunted Commanders to just 18 points, eight of which game on a garbage-time drive in the fourth quarter, Baun had 15 tackles and a pass deflection. It was his second game of the season with 15 tackles and fifth with at least 10.

He's been a revelation for a defense that collapsed late in 2023. After ranking in the bottom 10 in opponent yards per play (5.5) last year, Philadephia now leads the NFL (4.7). Rookie defensive backs Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean have played a big role, though Baun's addition is the glue that makes the entire defense work.

Perhaps Roseman's biggest error was signing Baun for just one year. He'll command a hefty payday this offseason, though that's a great kind of problem. The Eagles will get every chance to prove themselves as legitimate Super Bowl contenders over the next few weeks. They'll face the Rams, Ravens, Panthers, and Steelers before a rematch with the Commanders.

If Philadelphia goes 3-2 or better in that stretch, Baun will be a major reason why. He's a no-doubt Pro Bowler and should garner All-Pro consideration as well.

For now, the Eagles have the fifth-best odds to win the Super Bowl (+950) at FanDuel Sportsbook. Based on how dominant they looked on Thursday, this might be your last chance to cash in on Baun and one of the league's best defenses.
