The NHL offseason is in full swing and the Flyers need help in several places. After trading Brayden Schenn during the NHL Draft the team will look for several players to step up offensively.

After missing out on the playoffs in 2016 the Flyers were on the lookout for an offensive weapon to separate them from the rest of the pack. That didn’t work out as they also missed the playoffs this year and decided to trade Brayden Schenn to the St. Louis Blues in an attempt to shake up the top offensive lines. With many of the big names in free agency off the board the Flyers will seemingly have to look inside the organization for answers. These players are the top options to step up and take the team to the next level offensively.

Nolan Patrick

The most obvious choice to step up is the young phenom the Flyers chose with the second overall pick in this years draft. Nolan Patrick plays a physical enough game to have an effect in the NHL, the only question is whether his body can hold up for a full season as he has had injury concerns in the past. The vacancy left by Schenn on the second line is the perfect spot to put Patrick as he should put up plenty of goals in short order.

Oskar Lindblom

One of the more underrated moves the Flyers have made this offseason is bringing over young winger Oskar Lindblom from the Swedish Hockey League. In 52 games playing for Brynäs IF, Linblom showed off his ability to score, tallying 22 goals along with 25 assists. Quick with the puck on his stick, playing on a line with players such as Travis Konecny and Jakub Voracek that complement his style should help. These numbers may not immediately translate but Lindblom is young enough to give a shot on one of the top lines.

Jordan Weal

Recently signed to a 2 year 3.5 million dollar deal, Jordan Weal is hoping to improve upon a strong end of the year. When given the chance to actually stick in the lineup Weal impressed with 8 goals and 4 assists. This is only a small sample size, but with more chances to play this upcoming year Weal could give more of a scoring punch to the second line now missing Schenn.

The Flyers are stuck in an odd situation. They have the talent to make a playoff run, but many of these players are unproven. A mixture of veterans and young players has the team needing to rely on players who have taken a back seat in prior years. If the Flyers can get some help from some new players it isn’t out of the question to see the team have a strong year.
