It’s the start of the New Years, and each Philadelphia sports team probably has their own resolutions.

World Peace. Good Health. Lose Weight. The cliche New Years resolutions were shouted across the world when the ball dropped and 2017 was no longer something we all looked forward to. For Philadelphia Sports teams, the resolutions look a little different.

Most Philadelphia sports teams are in a position where the future is bright, and their timelines are moving forward to promising times. 2017 will bring another year of frustration, smiles, struggles, and triumph for these teams, but first they must state their resolutions.

Philadelphia Phillies – Become More Powerful

Offense offense offense. The Philadelphia Phillies may have had the most frustrating offense in the MLB, solely because they had flashes of becoming an actual threat. Still, the Phillies finished at the bottom of the National League in almost every offensive category imaginable.

They’ve done little to improve in that aspect. Howie Kendrick was the only real move they made that could contribute to an offense increase. But that’s a big if. They made a move for pitcher Clay Buchholz which many interpret as an asset building move used to gain a big bat.

There are a few options on the market. But if this team wants to make the next step shortly, they must see a jump in offense.

Philadelphia 76ers – Cut Ties With Bad Relationships

Nerlens Noel needs to be moved. It’s quite a shame. His talent is enough to make him at the very least a good second center option. Unfortunately, he’s gotten the worst of a situation where three centers need to share minutes.

Since the start of training camp, Noel has been very vocal about his unhappiness. This has continued on the entire season, and has become toxic in a sense. For both parties, it’d be best for the Sixers and Noel to move on from each other.

Philadelphia Flyers – Keep Scoring

The Flyers have had a season filled with goals. Unfortunately they’ve given up a ton as well. For the Flyers to put themselves into the playoffs, a continued high scoring output will be needed. Wayne Simmonds has been this team’s go to man on offense, and he will carry them or drop them in 2017.

Philadelphia Eagles – Treat Your Man Right

The Philadelphia Eagles must land on at least two of their draft picks and sign a decent name, and they must be guys who complement Carson Wentz. Wentz’s rookie season tailed off immensely, but that was due to a share of poor throws and lack of talent around him.

Finding an offensive target is imperative for the future of Wentz, but rebuilding the offensive line will also be important. Howie Roseman has a lot of Chip Kelly clean-up to continue, but at least he has an important building block.

Philadelphia Union – Take The Next Step

The Philadelphia Union are off of an unlikely playoff run. In 2017 they will look to take that next step and go from borderline playoff team, to a sustained MLS threat. The Union have been seeing moderate success year-by-year, but stagnation doesn’t win championships.

The year of 2017 should be a fun one sports-wise. Philadelphia sports are in a position to build the foundations of future success. It’s another year of what-ifs and struggles, but another year to see the beauty in building dynasties.
