The Philadelphia 76ers have some of the best young prospects in the NBA, but who do they compare to?

Draft prospects to pro comparisons are frustrating. The Philadelphia 76ers have been hearing comparisons of some of their draftees in recent years that have ranged from really good, to really bad. The comparisons are mostly unfair, on both ends of the spectrum, but sometimes they provide good insight on the style of play the prospects obtain.

Comparing any 20-year old to one of the legends of the game is unfair, but it makes a statement on what kind of style someone plays like. For instance, Suns guard Devin Booker may never be the shooter Ray Allen was, but a comparison could indicate the strengths of his game.

So comparing the rookies of the Philadelphia 76ers to current players can be eye-opening, misleading, and sometimes retroactively hilarious, but it gives us a feel on the type of game these young prospects could develop into. There are comparisons that read to a player’s ceiling, and one to a player’s basement.

Both are helpful in giving a very general indication on how a player develops, but in reality each player’s mentality and story leads to something different. That’s the beauty of the game, scouting, and the draft. There’s so many variables when it comes to landing on a prospect that go far beyond the game of basketball, which is why we tend to use comparisons from what we’ve seen on the court.

There’s really no way of knowing for sure how each player will turn out, but seeing the extremes of both the best and worst case scenario of each player helps in seeing the style of play that the prospect will adapt to in the NBA.

In this article you’ll see the best and worst case comparisons of some of the Philadelphia 76ers’ young core and the present day comparisons.
