If you thought the bad news would stop with one injury update, this one’s not gonna make you happy.

The Eagles made it to 4-0 last week, but their win over the Commanders was much closer than it should have been. It also cost Philadelphia a key starter for multiple weeks.

Eagles News: Cam Jurgens Injury Update

An MRI confirmed that right guard Cam Jurgens suffered a foot sprain in Sunday’s win over Washington, and he could miss “several weeks” with the injury. He joins Britain Covey on the list of key Eagles banged up in the loss, and this one hurts more than losing our return man.

Jurgens is not only the starting right guard, but he’s also the backup center behind Jason Kelce, which really messes with Philly’s depth and gameday roster construction.

Jurgens has admittedly been the weak point on an otherwise elite offensive line this season, but that doesn’t mean he’s been bad by any stretch. And with the importance of chemistry and continuity on the O-line, this is an injury we’ll certainly feel the impact of.

Tyler Steen was listed behind Jurgens on the depth chart, but it was Sua Opeta who replaced him on Sunday and who will continue doing so in Week 5 against the Rams.

Steen has been inactive on gamedays this season, but we can now expect the third-round pick to at least suit up as the primary backup on the interior O-line. Obviously we’re hoping that nobody else goes down, but it is a silver lining that we might get to finally see Steen in action.

As for Opeta, I don’t know if Sirianni is correct in saying he was “outstanding,” but he was at least passable on Sunday. He played well in pass protection but graded out quite poorly as a run blocker.

It’s another early-season blow for the Eagles, and every week it’s getting tougher to remain undefeated. But weathering these storms and overcoming adversity is what great teams do. You’d certainly rather be an ugly 4-0 than a pretty 2-2.
