Chip Kelly Showing Signs Of Arrogance – Philly.com

Chip Kelly’s actions over the last few years have shown that he values his scheme and system over players and conventional wisdom.

But is Kelly trending towards being overconfident and viewing himself as “smarter than everyone else” like Andy Reid and the previous administration did?

There’s certainly some evidence of that. With Kelly letting the team’s top weapons walk away, he’s saying that he can “plug in” any receiver or running back into his system and have success, much like Andy Reid believed he could have success with James Thrash and Todd Pinkston back in the day.

Reid also overdrafted several players, burning high draft picks on guys like Jaiquawn Jarrett, Brian Smith, and Chris Gocong. Kelly last year wanted to take Jordan Matthews in round one, and Taylor Hart in round three.

When a coach has a mindset that he’s smarter than the rest of the league, he can quickly turn into one of the worst. It’s alright for Kelly to be confident in his style, but he’s got to keep things in perspective and not allow himself to think too highly of his ways.

Eagles To Target Maxwell, McCourty, Worilds – Bleeding Green Nation

According to NFL Insider Jason La Canfora, the Philadelphia Eagles are expected to be one of the top players for cornerback Byron Maxwell, safety Devin McCourty, and linebacker Jason Worilds.

The Eagles have been busy clearing salary cap room over the last week, releasing James Casey, Todd Herremans, Cary Williams, Trent Cole, and trading LeSean McCoy.

Along with creating cap room, the Eagles have also created many question marks within their roster, so with the amount of money they have available it’s very fair to expect them to be one of the league’s major players in free agency. They can’t fill all of their holes through the draft, especially if they plan on orchestrating a trade to move up and select Marcus Mariota, so free agency is going to be a key for this team’s improvement.

Maxwell and McCourty would step in and represent immediate upgrades within the secondary, while Worilds is a guy that the Eagles are said to believe to be a great fit for their defensive scheme.

Jets Will Trade Pick To Eagles If Mariota Is Available – Crossing Broad

According to a report coming out of New York, a highly-placed league source has stated that the Eagles and New York Jets already have a deal in place for the sixth overall pick in the draft if Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota is still on the board at that time.

The Eagles and Jets have been linked as potential trade partners for several weeks now, and it wouldn’t at all be surprising if the two teams have been working out an arrangement in the event that Mariota slides to that spot.

Personally, I believe the Eagles are much more likely to trade up to the top pick rather the sixth overall position. I believe Chip Kelly is planning the future of his team around the idea of having Mariota as his quarterback, and I think he’ll do all that he can to make a deal with Tampa Bay and assure himself that no other NFL team steps in and interferes with his master plan.

What Does Eagles’ Shakeup Mean For Jeremy Maclin? – CSNPhilly

The Eagles shocked the NFL world by trading away LeSean McCoy, and Chip Kelly proved once again that he’s as bold as they come and will provide plenty of surprises along the way.

Kelly has shown that he’s not afraid to lose some of his top players, releasing DeSean Jackson last year and trading away McCoy this week. There’s reason to be concerned over whether or not Kelly will allow Maclin to walk as well.

Maclin’s contract talks haven’t gone well with the Birds, and he’s on his way to being an unrestricted free agent. With Demaryious Thomas and Dez Bryant slapped with franchise tags, Maclin will be one top options on the market, and will command a great deal of interest from teams in need.

With as unpredictable as Kelly and the Eagles have been anything is possible, but at this point I wouldn’t be surprised to see Maclin walk. He may not like the uncertainty of the team’s future and choose to sign on with a situation that he’s more comfortable with, such as the Kansas City Chiefs.
