Domonic Brown Represents Everything Wrong With The Phillies – Philly Voice

Domonic Brown has gone from being one of the top prospects in baseball, to briefly performing like an All-Star, to performing like a below-average outfielder.

And yet, the team refuses to move on from him. Ryne Sandberg stated recently that is “a big year for Dom” and that this season will determine “whether or not he’s a piece to build around”.

Yep. Five years later, the Phillies are still waiting for Domonic Brown to arrive in the major leagues.

Brown has holes throughout his game. He can’t hit for average (batting only .235 in 2014). He doesn’t hit for power (only 10 homers). He isn’t good at driving in runs (only 63). He won’t work walks (just  34 in 512 plate appearances). Oh, and he’s a terrible defensive outfielder.

Eagles Move Howie Roseman’s Office – Philly.com

Although the Eagles continue to offer no public comments regarding the working relationship between head coach Chip Kelly and former general manager Howie Roseman, there have been a number of moves that have gone down over the last few months to portray the struggle between the two.

First there was the power struggle, from which Kelly emerged victorious with complete control over all football decisions.

Then there was Roseman’s comments over the weekend, stating that he doesn’t believe trading up in the draft does enough to provide a club with good value (a not-so-subtle shot at the idea of going “all-in” for Marcus Mariota).

Now Roseman’s office has been moved away from the football operations part of the Novacare complex, with Howie now settling in on the business side, placing him as far away from Kelly as possible.

Braydon Coburn Trade A Steal For Flyers – CSNPhilly

Before the NHL’s trade deadline expired, the Flyers were able to make a move, shipping veteran defenseman Braydon Coburn out to the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for defenseman Radko Gudas along with first and third-round draft picks.

Flyers’ general manager Ron Hextall deserves a great deal of credit for orchestrating the move.

Hextall got tremendous value for Coburn, a veteran defenseman who had hit his ceiling several years ago and was viewed by many as a disappointment in Philadelphia.

In this trade alone, Hextall was able to pick up a talented prospect in Gudas, a pair of high draft picks, and cleared $4.5 million in salary cap space next year.

Hextall is changing the Flyers’ philosophy, and helping them build for the future to become a stronger club rather than sacrifice assets of tomorrow for a short-term boost. With the club sniffing around the final playoff spot, there must have been some pressure on the new G.M. to buy to go “all-in” and make a push to sneak into the playoffs.

Were The Eagles Close To A Deal With Tampa Bay? – Bleeding Green Nation

According to Pat Yasinkas of ESPN.com, there were heavy rumors over the weekend of the Eagles and Tampa Bay making a deal for the top draft pick.

The reported package included Nick Foles, LeSean McCoy, and three first-round draft picks for the rights to move up and select Marcus Mariota.

The reports were determined to be untrue by Yasinkas, but the talk of such a deal falls in line with other various reports over the last week that the Eagles were set to make a strong play to move up for Mariota.

Would the cost of Foles, McCoy, and three first rounders be too much for Mariota? Personally, I believe the Eagles should stay away from paying any kind of high price to move up in this draft, but as far as rumored trades go, that’s actually a more acceptable outcome.

If Mariota comes here, Foles has to be subtracted one way or the other. Having a quarterback controversy almost never ends in success. And with the Eagles sacrificing three first rounders to move up for a rookie quarterback, it would also become necessary to trade LeSean McCoy. With the team turning to a rookie quarterback, it’s highly unlikely that McCoy would still be in his prime when the team is ready to contend with Mariota, so the best thing would to be find a deal for the Pro Bowl running back.

The key in this proposed deal is that the Eagles wouldn’t part with any of their key young defensive pieces, most notably Fletcher Cox.
