There has been some speculation as to what the Eagles quarterback situation would look like as the NFL-mandated 53-man roster cutdown (Saturday at 4PM) draws closer. With G.J. Kinne having already been handed his walking papers and Matt Barkley putting forth a solid effort in the team’s preseason finale, some have assumed that the roster would have three quarterbacks like in 2013. According to Jimmy Kempski of Philly.com, that may not be the case.
Hearing from multiple sources that Eagles are open to trading Matt Barkley, & not just in that “open to trading anyone for right offer” way.

It’s tough to say what type of return Chip Kelly, Howie Roseman, and company would be seeking out for a player like Barkley. Given their situation at quarterback, the former USC Trojan does not appear destined to compete for a starting job unless Nick Foles regresses in a big way and Mark Sanchez is incapable of filling in. Though the coaching staff has preached the value of being deep at the position, injuries and lack of talent elsewhere may force their hand and Barkley could be a decent trade chip.
We’ll keep eyes on these developments and keep things updated as best we can.
