According to Eliot Shorr-Parks of NJ.com, who seems to be breaking everything this evening, red-headed step child (I have red hair so I can say that) Casey Matthews has made the Eagles roster. The 25 year-old Oregon product will likely see a majority of his time on special teams, but with the season-ending ACL tear to Travis Long, Clay’s younger brother may also get some snaps in nickel-situations at the outside-linebacker spot.
Emmanuel Acho seems to have lost his battle with Matthews, as the Eagles let him go simultaneously, per Shorr-Parks. While Acho can make an impact on special teams, and might be a more versatile linebacker than Matthews, Acho still falls short in comparison to Matthews on special teams, where either of the two were likely to see most of their time.
Acho joins Quarterback G.J. Kinne and Running-Back Henry Josey as the fairly significant names let go today. Like those two, he also figures to at least draw some interest on the waiver wire.
Earlier this evening, we also learned that Alex Henery is likely to be released before tomorrow’s 4 P.M. EST roster-trim deadline, as a late push from Cody Parkey seems to have been enough to win the kicking battle.
Stay tuned to Section 215 as more roster cuts pour in…….
