Josh Huff could be out 'a while'

After an impressive preseason debut that included a kickoff return for a touchdown, Oregon product Josh Huff’s second preseason game didn’t go so well.

After getting nailed on a first quarter kickoff return, bouncing off the hit and then being taken to the ground as he appeared to almost pull himself down, the 2014 third-round pick left the game with what was deemed to be a shoulder injury. As he walked off the field, Huff grimaced in pain, but it looked like all he really did was get the wind knocked out of him. With injuries questions about Jeremy Maclin and Riley Cooper already, it would have made sense if the Eagles decided to hold Huff out just as a precaution, even if he only had the wind knocked out of him.

After the game, Chip Kelly didn’t have an answer on Huff’s injury status.

I’m aware that Chip was trying to coach an NFL game tonight, albeit preseason, but he really doesn’t know about Huff’s injury that occurred in the first quarter? If he just had the wind knocked out of him, Chip would have known that by the second quarter.

It’s possible that Huff is still feeling a little tender, and will miss practice for a few days, but gets an MRI and doesn’t have any serious injury. It’s also possible Chip knows that Huff is headed for more of a medical examination to determine the degree of his injury, which would be really bad for an already depleted receiving core.

Stay tuned, as we will continue to monitor Huff’s injury. None of us want to be in the situation where Damaris Johnson makes the Eagles roster because of any sort of injury to Huff.

Update: 8/16 2:00 PM EST: Here is the latest on Huff’s injury, which it doesn’t appear we will get an answer on today.
