Prior to this year’s NBA Draft, there was some buzz that the Sixers considered shipping reigning rookie of the year Michael Carter-Williams to the Lakers, in exchange for Steve Nash’s expiring contract and the number seven overall pick. Moving MCW would also have allowed the Sixers the chance to pass on Joel Embiid’s health risks, and select Australian point-guard Dante Exum. Come draft night, much like rumors that all but guaranteed the Sixers would find a way to land Andrew Wiggins, the trade never became a reality.
Had Carter-Williams landed in Los Angeles, he likely would have seen a lot of Lakers’ (and NBA) legend Magic Johnson, who knows a thing or two about ball handling and passing himself. Instead, the two ran into each other at the Jeffrey Osborne Softball Classic this past weekend. And for MCW, who was batting while Johnson was lobbing in the soft tosses, it was showtime (pun intended).
