I’ve often said, most people don’t ever top their love of pro sports that they reach around the age of 13 or 14. At that time in your life, you are old enough and have seen enough games to have a a pretty good knowledge of the game, and yet, most people that age don’t have to worry about relationships, paying bills, and college and the real world are still a few years (it feels like forever) away.
As you grow older, you may gain more knowledge, but other problems often keep you from pouring every ounce of energy into rooting for your teams, like you once did. Many people who are great fans into their teenage years, lose interest in their teams as they take full-time jobs and try to have families.
Just don’t tell that to this 104 year-old Flyer fan, who melted when she got the birthday present of a lifetime, by getting a chance to try on the 1974-75 Stanley Cup championship ring of Bob “Houndog” Kelly. (We’ll give her grandson a pass for botching the nickname in the video.)
In what has been a very quiet off-season for Ron Hextall and company, this might be the best Flyers-related thing I’ve seen all Summer.
