Add another honor to the growing list of accolades for 76ers point guard Michael Carter-Williams. The latest, however, comes with a caveat, as MCW’s offseason shoulder surgery will prevent him from cashing in on the recognition. According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, Carter-Williams was included on the invite list to attend Team USA’s summer camp as a member of the select team. The select team practices alongside the National team over the course of the multi-day affair and gets an opportunity to spotlight their skills as a potential showcase for future consideration on the ‘Dream Team’. Unfortunately, Carter-Williams’ recovering shoulder will prevent him from making the trip to Las Vegas.

At just 22 years old, Carter-Williams’ top priority is his long-term health. Due to this, forcing any sort of participation in a secondary event like the Select Camp would be going against the organization and player’s best interest. While it would have been interesting to see how MCW stacked up against the best young competition in the league and have a chance to play alongside some superior talent. Here’s to hoping this isn’t the first time USA Basketball comes calling for MCW.
