Jeremy Maclin Goes Down During OTAs, Says He's 'OK'

Much like last offseason, Jeremy Maclin‘s right knee was the focal point of the first major scare of the months leading up to meaningful game action. For the time being, at least, it would appear as if the Eagles will not be dealt the same disappointing news regarding the health of their most dynamic receiver as they did in 2013.

For the second time in as many weeks, the Eagles held one of their OTA sessions and opened it to the media. Just as things were winding down Monday afternoon, Maclin went down in a heap clutching the same knee that he had reconstructed not even a year ago.

Jeff McLane was one of multiple media sources describing the ‘deadly silent’ scene as Maclin remain on the team’s practice field. It was not until a few minutes later that Maclin returned to full stature and was able to head off the field under his own power at the end of Monday’s practice.

Though a more dependable and professionally established source of this medical information may be preferred, Maclin giving the proverbial thumbs-up is as good an indication as one could hope for. For someone who has had multiple knee injuries and reconstructions, one would think he would be just as familiar with what a significant injury in that region feels like than any doctor. Given the amount of pressure on Maclin, especially after the departure of DeSean Jackson, incidents such as these can cause a great deal of anxiety within the fanbase and, one would have to imagine, the Eagles coaching staff & front office. Though it appears that the Eagles dodged a major bullet on Monday with regards to the health of the 26-year-old wide out, this only places a larger lens on Maclin’s well-being. From all indications, Maclin has looked fantastic in the team’s limited practice sessions up to this point. Especially considering the fact that he is under a one-year contract, it would be a devastating blow to both Maclin and the Eagles if he had to miss any sort of extended time as a result of complications with his surgically repaired knee.
