Chip Kelly Breaks Silence, Discusses Eagles Offseason and Playgrounds

On Monday afternoon, the Philadelphia Eagles held its 18th Annual Playground Build as part of their Eagles Youth Partnership. In attendance, none other than the ever-evasive head coach Chip Kelly. Along with several other members of the team, Kelly was at Prince Hall Elementary School to provide the Philadelphia establishment with a playground upgrade. Though the event was for charitable purposes, Kelly being out in the public provided the Eagles beat force with a rare opportunity to hear from the head coach outside of those availabilities required by the NFL. Kelly addressed various topics, including the most pressing storyline: the release of wide receiver DeSean Jackson.

Kelly also dropped a nugget on the team’s approach to May 8th’s NFL Draft.

The following quotes come courtesy of the Twitter account of NJ.com’s and 975 The Fanatic’s Matt Lombardo.

On the drafting a wide receiver:

On the acquisition of Darren Sproles:

Perhaps his most interesting quote, on Jackson playing for a division rival.

The general tone of his answers regarding DeSean Jackson would insist that the decision was purely a football transaction and had nothing to do with the perceived off-the-field issues that many pegged as a reason for his hasty departure. Though Kelly’s first media appearance in what seemed like forever covered all the topics anyone could have asked for, very little that wasn’t already known was revealed by the head coach. For what it’s worth, if it does anything to fan this flame, Kelly also was asked about Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel. (h/t @HubbuchNYP)

So, take all that for what you want.
