Cole Hamels officially will start against Dodgers on Wednesday

Mandatory Credit: Joy R. Absalon-USA TODAY Sports’s Todd Zolecki has confirmed reports from Friday evening that Cole Hamels will make his season debut Wednesday night against the Los Angeles Dodgers, at Chavez Ravine.

Hamels will take the place of Jonathan Pettibone in the rotation, who was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley after getting shelled yesterday evening.

His addition back into the rotation-which will come without any pitch counts or drawbacks-could immediately turn the Phillies rotation into one of the best in the National League. If the Phillies get the Hamels who was lights out down the stretch last year (granted, the games meant nothing), rather than the Hamels who struggled mightily in the first-half, they may have one of the best rotations in the MLB.
