Report: Browns and 49ers have joined Redskins in DeSean Jackson bidding

Sunday night, an report suggested that the DeSean Jackson was in ‘deep negotiations’ with two teams that we hadn’t heard previously connected to the Jackson sweepstakes. Dianna Russini of NBC 4 in Washington, has some insights on who those two teams may be.

The Browns are a team that we haven’t heard previously connected to Jackson, so they may very well have been one of those two teams. The other team that Russini connects to Jackson is the 49ers, who we have heard at least mentioned as having interest in Jackson, so they may or may not be the second team that was alluded to in that report. Either way, it appears the San Francisco 49ers have interest.

Jackson is still in Washington D.C. visiting the Redskins today, and reports (plus Instagram pictures with Wale and members of the Redskins) have suggested that a Jackson deal to Washington is ‘a done deal’ and that are ‘making progress’ on a Jackson deal. Russini says that a source close to the Redskins knows that DeSean can’t leave D.C. without a deal.

Update 2:00 PM EST- Per Albert Breer of the NFL Network, the price-tag for DeSean Jackson would have to come down for the 49ers to seriously make a run at him. According to Over the Cap, the 49ers have $4,589,810 available in cap space for 2014.

The 49ers could try to move someone else and open up cap space, or they could look to backload DeSean’s deal, but if the Redskins can guarantee DeSean more money in the front-half of the deal, I’d find it hard to see a world where Jackson chooses the Niners over the ‘Skins.

Keep in mind, we don’t know whether teams are looking at Jackson on a one-year incentive-based deal type of contract, or whether a team like the Redskins would be willing to guarantee two or more years if it meant Jackson came to the nation’s capital.

Update 3:05 PM EST- According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, DeSean Jackson’s agent Joel Segal is in Washington D.C. and is beginning negotiations with the Redskins on a deal. Read more here.
