In the break-neck paced world of the tampering period of NFL free agency, the Eagles went from major players for one of the marquee targets on the open market to falling out of the running when it comes to pass-rushing specialist Michael Johnson.
Michael Johnson to Philly isn’t happening. A few teams in the mix as negotiations get heavy, Eagles not amongst them.

Something tells me that the team that does end up signing Johnson will be doing so to have him step in as a 4-3 defensive end. Although he has the sort of tantalizing frame that could transition into a 3-4 outside linebacker, teams pay top dollar for pass rushers and one might raise an eyebrow at an organization that would pay that much money for a player playing out of position. There are still a few pass-rushers that should hit the open market that will provide the Eagles an upgrade from their situation in 2013. Although the top targets (Johnson, Jason Worilds, Brian Orakpo) are off-limits for the Eagles, there are plenty of intriguing names that the team can bring in at a considerable discount compared to the top names.
Information is slowly trickling in about some of the names that the Eagles are involved with. Whenever anything of substance comes up, we’ll be sure to update accordingly.
