Update February 25th 8:25 Am EST: In case you missed it, while you were sleeping Liberty Ballers’ Jake Pavorsky passed along this nugget of information on Granger.
The Sixers will indeed buyout Danny Granger, per source.
Since being acquired as part of the Evan Turner trade from the Indiana Pacers last Thursday afternoon, it has always seemed to be a matter of when, not if, the Sixers would ultimately end up buying out veteran small forward Danny Granger.
Not only was Granger reportedly “pissed” about the Pacers trading him to the Sixers, but he doesn’t make sense for the Sixers. If the Sixers had just wanted cap room, they could have waited for Turner to come off the books at the end of the season. Moving him for an expiring veteran contract was a sign that the team didn’t ever really plan on bringing Granger on, but rather buying him out, and setting the team up to continue to struggle and improve the team’s lottery chances.
After meeting with both general manager Sam Hinkie and head coach Brett Brown this weekend, it appears that the two sides have gone through the motions, and are working on a buyout that should be completed either tonight or early tomorrow morning.
Brett Brown spoke with Danny Granger. He expects within 24 hours announcement will be made. Granger speaking with Sam. Sounds like buyout
