Sean Couturier Has Been The Unsung Leader Of The Flyers

Heading into the December 4th match up with the Detroit Red Wings, the Philadelphia Flyers sit at a game below the .500 mark, after a 2-0 loss in Minnesota against the Wild on Monday. After 27 games, which represents one-third of the Flyers schedule, we probably have a pretty good idea of what this team is all about. It’s not all pretty, but one player has stood tall and been solid for the Flyers.

Sean Couturier has endured numerous attacks on his play by various media sources and fans alike, but is he really that bad? He mans the penalty kill, plays on the shutdown line that is responsible for checking the other teams top players and, as of late, has even thrown in the points that the media and fans have been craving for.

He is +7 on the year, decent on face offs, and averages 19 minutes of ice time a game, which is top six numbers for a forward. All of this comes while being responsible for shutting down the likes of Stamkos, Parise and Malkin. How can you score when your trying to check these guys?

Right now, he is the Flyers best forward. He has done everything the team has asked of him, and every other team in the NHL would love to have his name on their roster, especially Malkin and the Pittsburgh Penguins. Give this kid a break and start talking about what his future holds and be patient because the points will come.

And by the way, he’s only days away from his 21rst birthday.
