It’s hard to get a feel for Sunday’s Eagles-Raiders matchup. On one hand, the Raiders, who really aren’t that great of a team, have been competitive this year behind former Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor, who leads the team in both rushing and passing yards. The area that has held the Raiders back recently is that they have struggled to finish games, although they manged to get a win against the Steelers last week. The Eagles on the other hand looked like a team that could make the playoffs just a few weeks ago, before Nick Foles delivered an abysmal performance against the Cowboys before leaving with an injury, and Michael Vick and Matt Barkley struggled to get the Eagles offense going against the New York Giants.
So as the Eagles sit at 3-5 and the Raiders sit at 3-4, both teams enter the game that will essentially decide the course of their season. For the Raiders a loss to drop to 3-6 would all but eliminate them in a division that features three other playoff contenders (Chiefs, Broncos, and Chargers). The Eagles may never completely fall out of the playoff race mathematically because of how bad the NFC East is, but for all intents and purposes if the Eagles fall to the Raiders, which would give them a third straight loss, it would prove to anyone still holding out hope, that they are not a playoff team.
The Eagles also look to avoid going 0-4 against the AFC West this season with this game, after losing to the Chargers, Chiefs, and Broncos in consecutive weeks earlier this season.
