Rich Dubee has been the Phillies pitching coach since 2004, as he joined the Phillies big-league staff at the same time as former manager Charlie Manuel. It has been over a week since the Phillies fired Manuel, and Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer says that Dubee could be shown the door at the season’s end.

Pitching coach Rich Dubee is known as a gruff mentor. A veteran is equipped to take criticism and implement it. Younger pitchers could benefit from a different approach. Dubee, whose contract expires at the end of this season, is likely headed elsewhere.

Regardless of what the Phillies do this offseason, some of the arms in the bullpen will have to be young guys. What makes or breaks a bullpen, is how good the fringe young guys can perform. If Dubee doesn’t work well with the younger pitchers, then making a change is seemingly common sense.
