Earlier today, ESPN’s Buster Olney gave me his thoughts on concerns about Jonathan Papelbon’s trade value around the league. As I mentioned in that post, I reached out to a few MLB reporters, both local and national, and the latest response came from Chris Cotillo.
For those of you who don’t know Chris, he is a Boston area guy, and is now working for SB Nation’s MLB Daily Dish. Chris, like me, is only 17 years-old. While just about all 17 year-olds aren’t capable of breaking sports news, Chris has been featured on MLB Trade Rumors for breaking MLB trades and signings. Chris is legit, and should be taken just as seriously as any national sports reporter.
So I sent out the original tweet to Chris and others, and my friend Jordan responded first with his thoughts on Papelbon, saying he wouldn’t want Papelbon in his clubhouse, after his comments yesterday. Chris had an interesting response to that.

Like me, I believe Chris thinks that Papelbon may be becoming a distraction in Philadelphia. Ruben Amaro might not get a great return, but he may be able to avoid a potentially toxic distraction with Papelbon if he trades him before Wednesday’s trade deadline.
