As we inch closer and closer to the MLB trade deadline, Michael Young potentially being traded has been the buzz here in Philadelphia. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge fan of Young, but Ruben Amaro Jr. must trade him because that’s what is best for our future moving forward.
The Phillies need to get younger now and Young is 36 years old. We can’t just keep continuing to try one last run each and every year. We all know that this team isn’t capable of winning a World Series this year, so why wait until the end of the season when you can start rebuilding now? And what better and more easier way to begin your rebuilding process then making Kevin Frandsen and Cody Asche your dynamic 3rd basemen duo. Frandsen has shown us that he can be both a clutch, a very good hitter, and deserves more playing time. As for Asche, he deserves to be moved up to the majors in my mind. Asche is having an excellent season with the Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs. He is batting .294 with 12 homeruns and and 60 RBIs. In addition, Asche was a starter in this past 2013 Triple-A All-Star game. The Phillies could make the two a platoon at 3rd base. I believe they would make a great duo together.
And just like that, you are already a bit younger.
Let’s get younger. Let’s reward these younger guys with more playing time and enjoy them develop. Why wait? It’s time to rebuild now. Let’s make this rebuilding process a successful one.
