I appreciate and have fond memories of everything that Jayson Werth did during his time in Philadelphia. I refuse to boo him, and it really bothers me when fans boo Werth. That being said, when I saw this video of Werth having a childish meltdown because a reporter put the microphone to close to his face after the Phils beat the Nationals 3-1, I couldn’t help but crack a smile.
As much as I loved Werth on the field, he never came off as the most friendly guy. Who can forget him screaming expletives at a father who caught a foul ball in the stand to prevent his son from getting hit with the ball? Not a classy move.
I don’t know how long the Phillies will realistically stay in the NL East race. I don’t think the Braves are going to win the division because their hitting is too streaky, and I still think the Nats are the class of the division. But, boy would it be fun to see the Phils beat out Jayson and the Nats and win an NL East crown in 2013. Doing that would be similar to the Phillies beating out Billy Wagner and the Mets in 2007. Sure the Nats, much like the Mets in 2007, are the better team. But, if the Phillies could find a way to win the division and beat a former Phillie who really doesn’t have too many kind thoughts left about the city, that would be pretty awesome.
