In America you are technically innocent until proven guilty. But in the case of Aaron Hernandez, it is pretty clear that he orchestrated one of the worst murder cover-ups ever. Hernandez is currently being held without bail in a Massachusetts prison, after pleading not-guilty in the murder of semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd. Lloyd’s dead body was found within a mile of Hernandez’s house.
So the last thing that you would expect anyone to say, even if they thought it, is that Aaron Hernandez was a good kid. But in an interview on Boston’s WEEI radio, new Eagles safety Patrick Chung said just that of his former teammate.
“I’m shocked. He’s a cool kid… but it’s not my responsibility or business to talk about that stuff. He’s a good kid and hopefully everything works out for the best.”
Host Craig Mustard continued to grill Chung about Hernandez in hopes that he would say something along the lines that the Patriots players always kind of had a sense that Hernandez was falling in with the wrong crowds. Chung instead remained professional, saying that he hung out with Hernandez but never in a one on one setting, because the Patriots were a close team that hung out together.
I think Aaron Hernandez is one of those type of guys, that would give signs that off the field he might have hung out with “some undesirables” as Mustard put it in the interview. Still, how were any of his teammates supposed to honestly know that he was going to kill Odin Lloyd? The whole case is just strange.
