Experience and youth.

This year, the Philadelphia Phillies will be represented by veteran pitcher Cliff Lee and young phenom Domonic Brown. Brown, as Phillies fans know, was Yasiel Puig before Yasiel Puig stole the baseball headlines.

Both Lee and Brown got on the National League All-Star Team via manager selection and player selection. It was unlikely that any Phillies would get on the ballot this year with the fan vote since Brown was way behind in fan voting for outfielders and Chase Utley, who didn’t make the team, was well behind in fan voting for second basemen.

What has Brown done for the Phillies? He’s batted .279 with a club leading 22 home runs and 60 RBIs. He also leads the team in hits with 90 and runs scored with 47. It’s safe to say that Brown has been one of the few bright spots on a team whose general manager is looking to sell at the trade deadline.

Cliff Lee also has All-Star worthy numbers. Unlike Roy Halladay who has showed signs of his age, he’s 10-2 with a 2.73 ERA, walked 21, and struck out 119. Only he and Cole Hamels have struck out more than 100 batters this season, but Hamels has seemingly been throwing batting practice all year long (3-11, 4.38 ERA, 33 BB, 107 K).
