Last week Philadelphia was struck with grief, as Phillies legend Darren “Dutch” Daulton was suddenly diagnosed with two brain tumors. After a few days of Philly’s outpouring and support, Dutch went into surgery today at Thomas Jefferson University hospital. And you don’t have to be a doctor to know that anytime someone is going into surgery for brain tumors, things aren’t guaranteed to end perfectly. Fortunately, according to Kevin Judy who operated on Dutch today, the surgery appears to have been a success.
Obviously we hope that Dutch is able to make a full recovery to the point of resuming his normal life. Not that working at 97.5 the Fanatic is the most important thing now, but you hope for Dutch that the speech therapy he goes through is enough for him to get back to being able to speak normally, because he obviously enjoys talking about the Phils.
First and foremost, Philly has really come together for Dutch over the last week. And I think that demonstrates that as tough as we can sometimes be on our athletes, if you work your ass off in this town, we have your back on and off the field. And that makes me proud to be a Philly sports fan. Right on fight on, Dutch.
