It was a quiet off-season for the Sixers prior to tonight’s NBA draft. Some people felt in a sense it was almost too quiet. And then tonight happened. After trading All-star Jrue Holiday to the New Orleans Pelicans for Nerlens Noel and drafting Michael Carter-Williams with the 11th pick in the NBA draft, the Sixers appear ready to name their new head coach. According to the New York Daily News, the Sixers have hired San Antonio Spurs assistant Brett Brown to be their next head coach.
The Sixers have decided to hire San Antonio assistant coach Brett Brown as their new head coach, the Daily News has learned.
While Brown isn’t one of the hotter coaching names that we’ve heard, he comes off of the staff of Greg Poppovich, which gives me a good feeling. The Sixers are a project team, and it will be interesting to see whether Brown is a transition coach or a guy that can survive a few rough early years and live to see the turnaround of the Sixers.
